Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24)

Created in 1961, the Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24) derives its main focus from its name: the process of decolonization of past colonial territories. When established, over 700 million people were living in non-self-governing areas. Though this is not the case anymore, the current 29 members of the committee continue to work on topics of self-determination rights and independence.

CHAIRS

María Soto

My name is Maria Soto and I am a 19-year old student from Spain, currently in my first year of the Maastricht Science Programme. I am excited to share that for the first time I will be co-chairing the Special Committee on Decolonization. I have already participated as a delegate in various MUN conferences and I really like debating about current global issues. I am also a fan of travelling and sports.

Pek Iok Ma

I’m Mavis, a senior student from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) majoring in Government and Public Administration. It is really my honour to be one of the chairs in the EuroMUN and meet all of you from around the world! I have been involved in Model United Nations since high school and got the chance to play various roles in the conference. In order to promote the culture of Model United Nations in Macau and Hong Kong, I also co-founded a Non-Profit Organization, MMUNPS, which aims to cultivate devotees of MUN and was recognized as one of the members of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN)
